Formed in 1968 as a group of volunteers to assist the Oblates with the operation of the Musée Lacombe Museum, the Society incorporated and became a registered charity in 1972. The Society continued to operate the Lacombe Museum until 1984, when operations were turned over to the City of St. Albert as the Musée Héritage Museum. The Father Lacombe Chapel then became a Provincial Historical Site and the Society managed the site programs until these were taken over by the Musée Héritage Museum in 2002. The Society then shifted its focus and has since been involved with numerous programs and projects to promote and preserve the history of St. Albert and area.

The St. Albert Historical Society is a registered charity; is governed by a Board of Directors; adheres to the provisions of the Alberta Personal Information Protection Act and the Alberta Fund Raising Act; does not share mailing lists with other organizations and is in compliance with all Alberta Registries and Canada Revenue Agency reporting requirements.

Please contact the St. Albert Historical Society for further information, including information about memberships, available products, historical information and donations to the Society.
